As you said that if i have more than 500 posts.we have to add a second sitemap with max-results being 1000. But the submitted column shows only 500. Whats catch here ?

You have to add both the sitemaps one by one. It will work for first 500 posts and it will work for posts after 500.

      Hey Ankit Singla,
Please check your post again, because you have written atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=501&max-results=501 as you said atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=501&max-results=1000 works for after 500 posts. Hope you got my point ??

I have over 4000 post in my blog. What should I do?

Reply
    Ankit Singla
you have to put multiple sitemaps in your google webmaster account.
    atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500
Look at bold text in the above code.
start-index=1 : Refers to the starting number of the post
max-results=500 refers to the limit of posts in that sitemap.
If you have 4000+ posts in your blog then put sitemaps in below manner
    sitemap 1: from 1 to 500
    sitemap 2: from 501 to 1000
    sitemap 3: from 1001 to 1500
Hope you understand I am trying to say. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for thisi didnt know how important it was and never would have figured out how to do this on my own. thanks again!
But actually, I have a question: do you only have to do this once and its automatically updated whenever you have a new post (or when u reach 1000 posts? Thanks!

    Ankit Singla
Yes dear, it will automatically work for all of your posts. Once you cross the limit of 500 posts, then you just need to submit one more sitemap. Simple

I am a newbie blogger. Sorry but I didnt exactly understood what it is for. All I knew is that I have to do it in order to claim ownership of my blog and improve my index rate. (do not understand index rate either) I just gave it a try, why not? I am not sure what will happen. But thanks anyway. Your instructions are very easy, even a newbie like me got it.

Hey i need some help, i have submitted my sitemap 4-5 days ago and i used this code /feeds/posts/default as far as i know it only indexes up to 26 posts but my blog has more than 35 posts, so today i have submitted your code as well. So my question is will there be an issue having both these codes on Google webmasters tool ?

Hi,
I submitted it but the issue is that it is going with only maximum of 500 urls. I tried changing the number in the end but it does not works. Any idea about submitting like more than 1000 urls ?

Thanks a lot for that. Usually the site maps can be generated by some free online resources. They usually come in .xml form. But I was in a fix when I wanted to index my blogspot blog. This post helped me to submit the sitemap pretty quickly. Didnt understand the redirect part though. But, anyway, it got indexed and will be crawled within a few hours I suppose. Thank you for the tutorial.

I have two questions.
1. Lets say I have manually created folders inside my blog, how am I going to put site maps for those URLs.
2. And how to create sitemaps if there are 1000s of URLs involved. I know there are websites that offers the service for free, but they dont seem to grab everything 100%
Any thoughts? thanks for explaining the process.
